PASHMINA wool is one
of the softest, most luxurious fibres in the
world. Every summer, Indian farmers climb
the mountains to comb the fine woollen undercoat
from the Himalayan goat - six times thinner
than human hair. Once the favoured fabric
of emperors and kings, the wool is used today
in stoles, scarves, sweaters - and, of course,
the shawls which have taken the pashmina name.
Families in the Valley
of Kashmir have passed down the skills of
shawl weaving and embroidering since the 15th
century and today many hours of painstaking
work go into the production of each pashmina
or 'cashmere' as they are also called.

Description OUR pashminas
are sourced from the Kashmiris themselves
and are made by the traditional methods.
Once cleaned, the collected wool is
spun on a local spinning wheel called
a Charka.
Each square inch of shawl is made up
of around 95 horizontal silk yarns and
90 pashmina yarns. Too fragile to cope
with the vibration from a power loom,
our traditional 100% pashmina shawls
are woven completely by hand, coloured
with natural, eco-friendly dyes and
finished with a characteristic fringe
which takes a Kashmiri woman many hours
to make.
